Mars Pathfinder was intended to be an exhibit of the innovation important to convey a lander and a free-extending mechanical meandered to the surface of Mars in a practical and productive way. It brought about images and required data to earth. It worked more than the time expected for Mars Pathfinder to be in the orbit.
